What It Is

Medication is one tool. You decide whether to use it.

Our nurse practitioners can help you find out if medication could help. If you decide to try it, they prescribe it and check in with you by video. They work from the same plan as your therapist, so you don’t have to tell your story twice.

Many people do well with therapy alone. For others, the right medication takes the edge off enough that the work of therapy becomes possible.

Nothing starts without your agreement.

What it includes

  • An evaluation of your symptoms, your health and any past medications
  • A plan you make together with your nurse practitioner
  • Prescriptions sent to the pharmacy you choose
  • Regular follow-ups to see how it’s working and adjust it with you

Who you’ll see

  • A psychiatric nurse practitioner, an advanced practice nurse with graduate training in mental health
  • Licensed in Texas to evaluate, diagnose and prescribe psychiatric medication

What It Can Help With

Common conditions medication can help treat

Many people have more than one of these at once. Your nurse practitioner looks at the whole picture.

  • Depression
  • Anxiety and panic
  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Mood swings
  • Sleep problems
  • Eating disorders

Connected to Your Therapy

One team, one plan.

You don’t have to find a separate prescriber and tell your story all over again. Your nurse practitioner and your therapist work from the same plan, so what you notice in group or in session reaches the person adjusting your medication.

Questions

What people ask before their first visit.

Do I have to take medication?

No. Medication is available if you and your nurse practitioner decide it makes sense. You can also decide to wait, try therapy first, or stop the conversation at any point.

Do I need to be in therapy with you to get medication management?

No. You can call us to start with medication management even if you aren’t a client yet. If you’re in therapy with us, or decide to start, your nurse practitioner and therapist work from the same plan.

Is it all online?

Yes. Visits are by secure video from anywhere in Texas, and prescriptions are sent to the pharmacy you choose.

What if a medication isn’t working or the side effects bother me?

Tell your nurse practitioner or your therapist during your sessions. Finding the right medication and dose can take some adjusting, and that is what follow-up visits are for. Please don’t stop a medication on your own without talking to your nurse practitioner first.

I already see a psychiatrist. Can I keep them?

Yes. If you keep your current psychiatrist, they continue to manage your medication, and you would not also see one of our nurse practitioners. With a signed release of information on file (a form that gives us your OK to talk with them), we can stay in touch with them about your care.

What if I need help right away?

Medication management is not emergency care. If you are in crisis, call or text 988, or call 911.
