Therapeutic Yoga is a specific type of treatment that incorporates gentle yoga postures, use of yoga props (bolsters, blankets and blocks), mindfulness and meditation to assist in decreasing symptoms and increase wellness. Therapeutic yoga can assist in decreasing symptoms by focusing on body awareness, breath awareness and mindfulness techniques exploring stressful thoughts or emotions. Through the use of mindfulness and meditation, clients can experience a decrease in interpersonal stress, increase self esteem and overall resiliency. Therapeutic Yoga is beneficial for clients experiencing a range of mental health concerns including anxiety, depression and symptoms of trauma. Laura will assist in creating a therapeutic treatment plan tailored to specific emotional needs with the use of gentle yoga postures to assist in overall treatment goals.

In session, Laura uses iRest® meditation by first focusing on body sensing and breath awareness to establish a sense of grounding and relaxation. Then, as clients feel ready, meditation is used to explore emotions, thoughts and core beliefs and how these present as somatic sensations felt within the body. Laura will continue to weave in aspects of the meditation protocol to assist clients in establishing a felt sense of well-being, ease and relaxation. Client’s can also choose to incorporate a spiritual dynamic into their meditation as Laura is a christian counselor. Meditation helps clients understand the connection between emotional experiences and physical sensations. Client’s can choose to experience the meditation first, then discuss their experience with Laura or talk through their experience to receive objective feedback and guidance through the use of co-meditation.
