Carlos Velazquez is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Army veteran whose professional therapeutic experience centers on working with traumatized children of all ages and their families, as well as extensively with adults and couples. Primarily within judicial and community organizations, he has worked with clients living with depression, anxiety, trauma, addiction, domestic violence, familial conflict, childhood behavioral challenges and environmental hardships.
Carlos’ therapeutic approach is centered on the use of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) with supporting tenants from other evidenced-based therapies that may benefit the particular needs of a client. CBT helps individuals better understand how thought and emotion interact and impact behaviors, relationships, and life’s conditions. He is nationally rostered and experienced in the use of child-parent psychotherapy (CPP), a treatment model primed for children aged 0-5 which focuses on improving the traumatized child’s resiliency through his or her closest parental/caregiver relationship(s). He utilizes his EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) training by helping individuals process trauma and associated symptoms toward more resilient living.
Carlos is a firm believer of the individual’s ability for change. Furthermore, he believes that a strong professional relationship between the client and counselor is key to therapeutic success, and that this relationship is best fostered through an atmosphere of trust, collaboration, and respect.
