Summary: 

The emotion of anxiety is a common feeling, everyone experiences from time to time. However, anxiety disorders are diagnosis where anxiety can stop you from living your day to day life. 

Anxiety is a disorder where an individual experiences excessive fear and anxiety related to behavioral disruptions. For those who live with an anxiety disorder they cope with a constant feeling of fear and worry. 

The difference between Fear and Anxiety: 

“Fear” is the emotional response to real or perceived imminent threat, while in contrast “anxiety” is the fear of future events. 

Common Types of Anxiety include: 

  • Generalized Anxiety: Excessive, unrealistic worry and tension with little or no reason.

  • Social Anxiety (also known as Social Phobia): Feelings of being overwhelmed, or as if others are constantly judging you in everyday situations.

  • Separation Anxiety

  • Panic Disorder: Overwhelming fear, that you would even consider “terror” happens at random without warning. Panic attacks are common, with physical symptoms such as shortness of breath, racing heartbeat, and sweating.
